INSECTS!

"Transformers" - Workshop held at ENSA Versailles

With: Benedetta Verderosa and Luisa Ruffertshoefer

"By 2050 meat production will have to increase by 50%. Considering that we already use one third of croplands for the production of animal feed, we will have to look for alternative food sources and alternative ways of growing it." (source FAO)

We were asked to imagine how to transform some iconic buildings in order to adapt them to future society changements. So, starting from this prediction, I imagined that a new function will emerge: INSECT FARMING! In the future we will need to have insect farms mostly in cities where the majority of the population lives (in the future 90% of the population will be living in cities according to the UN 2014 World Urbanization Prospects) . So, we have tought of trasforming a parisian iconic building, such as Les Docks designed by Jakob+MacFarlane (Cité de la mode et du design, Quai Branly) into a city-insect farm, where you can taste, buy and breed insects.
